The Sudbury District Sports Club (SDSC) is pleased to officially announce the finalising of the construction plans for a multi-use sports facility in Greater Sudbury.
“This dome is the only one of its kind in Sudbury and will allow everybody in our community to enjoy, play, train and get active in a year-round, state-of-the-art facility” Wayne Trainor, president, SDSC
The SDSC has been working towards getting a multi-sport facility for the past four years. Making progress within the last year, the SDSC has been working in partnership with Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) to get an agreement in place to build the sports dome. With the help of a private donor the SDSC has received the $3 million funding for the facility.
Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) is currently in discussions with the City regarding the site plan.
With the location of the dome at École secondaire du Sacré-Cœur High School on Notre Dame Avenue, the new facility will measure 200 ft. x 400 ft. and 50 ft high and is a multi-use air supported structure that will accommodate a variety of local, regional and national sports, organisations and events. The dome can also be split into multiple smaller fields, allowing multiple games and activities to take place simultaneously. In addition to soccer, the dome will be used for a variety of sports including football, rugby, slo-pitch, Frisbee, flag football and has a training facility with four batting cages for the indoor baseball leagues. The dome will also allow enhanced, year-round programming opportunities, a venue for corporate events and a variety of other activities that will help ensure the needs of our community and visitors will continue to be met for years to come.
Construction is anticipated to begin Summer 2018 with completion by Fall 2018.
